You can do that, of course: you can say that the feeling of a calling is an illusion. But that sets us on the road to scepticism.

Benjamin:

It could be, but I think the idea that they have a calling is something a lot of people have apart from religion. Think of how hard people struggle to figure out what they are personally supposed to do with their lives.Alexander R Prusshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05989277655934827117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3891434218564545511.post-34571853790086099632021-07-06T20:00:09.530-05:002021-07-06T20:00:09.530-05:00My worry would be that "I have a calling"...My worry would be that "I have a calling" would be a thought inspired by the stories of the Bible and the grand story they together imply. So premise 1) is coming from a belief that God exists, rendering the argument circular.Benjamin Stowellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01319546252260646028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3891434218564545511.post-12686866501009986752021-07-06T17:52:32.951-05:002021-07-06T17:52:32.951-05:00"If I have a calling, someone with authority ..."If I have a calling, someone with authority over me calls me to a particular form of life."

Surely that presupposes that the thing that calls you is an authortitive being. You cannot know that the brain chemicals that make you believe you have the subjective feeling of a "calling" is infact from an objective "authortitive" being.

"If lighting strikes my house, that means zeus is angry with me, therefore zeus exists...?"

This argument doesn't work as it presupposes premises which cannot be proven within the argument. In order for my argument to work I first must know that (a) Zeus Exists & (b) Zeus would strike my house if he was angry with me.
James Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16419484139363494846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3891434218564545511.post-9003676565222462792021-06-27T23:19:50.612-05:002021-06-27T23:19:50.612-05:00I think so.I think so.Alexander R Prusshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05989277655934827117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3891434218564545511.post-63466950119808568902021-06-27T20:54:27.490-05:002021-06-27T20:54:27.490-05:00And God would be the being of the conclusion? And God would be the being of the conclusion?El Filósofohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16988782982729677612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3891434218564545511.post-13673207157722956782021-06-27T20:52:13.591-05:002021-06-27T20:52:13.591-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.El Filósofohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16988782982729677612noreply@blogger.com
