On my view, love has a three-fold structure:
- benevolence
- appreciation
- union.
This three-fold structure has certain Trinitarian parallels. The Father is the benefactor: he gives being to the Son and thereby to the Holy Spirit. The Son admires the Father, is the Logos that reflects upon the Father’s goodness. The Holy Spirit unites the Father and the Son.
Wow, this post is extremely relevant to my current work. I have developed a philosophical argument for the necessary existence of the Trinity, and the idea of intra-Trinitarian love plays a significant role in it. I would *love* to share it with you if you have the time and inclination! Let me know. Thanks!
